Alwar contains many interesting and historical monuments. The city has a beautiful lake and a picturesque valley. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is located in the Aravalli hills only a few kilometres away from Alwar. The sanctuary, which is a Project Tiger reserve, also boasts of many other species, including rare birds and plants. The military cantonment of Itarana lies on the outskirts of Alwar.

For a breath of fresh air, this former royal retreat 20km southwest of Alwar (off the road to Sariska Tiger Reserve), is one of the state’s lesser known secrets. Uninhabited forested hills encircle a tranquil 10.5 sq km lake and perched above the lake is the erstwhile hunting lodge - a cream-coloured confection with cupolas, balconies and courtyards. It was built by the Alwar Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1845, and is now a government run hotel. A large contingent of employees went on a plant Tour to Alwar. Kaizen and small group activity (more than 100) were becoming increasingly popular.
