1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom aka "the black beauty". This thing is in amazing condition for a guitar that's a year old, let alone one that's 41 years old! This guitar looks like it has never even been played before. All original (the 4 ply pick guard was taken to a shop to have "jesus" inscribed in it) and even has the original hard shell case. i believe the term is "pancake body" with the body being made of 2 pieces of mahogany pancaked together. The neck is 3 piece and straight as an arrow and plays like butter, but I would be afraid to bring this baby out to play live at bars or gigs or anything like that. Definetly a guitar for the home or studio with the condition it's in. The binding along the front and back of the body as well as the neck is in great condition and has turned a yellowish tint which is normal for something this old. Little sign of wear on the frets, but they are on the smaller side. All of the big fat inlays are in amazing shape along with the design on the headstock. The guitar weights 9 lbs. which is a nice weight (i've had some up to 12 lbs. before) play for awhile without feeling it. The serial number is tough to see in the pictures, but is starts with 891. The pots are also dated to be from 1969, 34th week. The gold hardware is in amazing shape along with the rest of the guitar. I would give this guitar an easy 9 out of 10.
